Pros and Cons of Free Online Dating

Free online dating is a great idea – but not all online dating sites are created equal.

Let’s take a look at both sides for a moment…

Pros

Free!

Cons

Most free online dating sites are suited to predators and undesirables, giving the opportunity to disguise their identities and their less than honest intentions behind the anonymous wall of the Internet. In fact, many people on free online dating sites tend to have multiple accounts for this reason.

There is a higher level of dishonesty found on the free online dating sites. This is not just in reference to what they might tell you, but also for the photos used in their profile, which are usually just found online.

There is a greater need to consider your personal safety with the free online dating sites.

A closing thought - while many dating sites say that they’re free, that’s not always the case. Be sure to investigate any site for its online reputation and credibility, especially when asking for your credit card info.

Unique Dating Site

Now here’s a dating site where no one is looking for any real long term commitments. The dating site Till Death Do Us Part is for people who are living with a terminal illness…

Another Dating Niche

There’s a new dating niche that troubles us at Dater’s Daily – matching for the mentally ill.

The website caters to individuals with depression, anxiety and other mental disorders. Our concern is that some might actually prey on members of this kind of site. URL intentionally left unmentioned.

Free Dating Sites – Worth What You Pay?

Lots of people are happy about all these free dating sites, mostly because they’re free. But let’s take a look at the other side of things.

With the free dating sites, members are less likely to bother canceling their membership since it isn’t costing them anything. That means there is the possibility that you’ll be trying to make contact with a lot of profiles that no one is watching, which can be discouraging and a waste of time.

There’s also little to no screening process involved. So fill in a profile and you’re accepted. But isn’t it better to have a screening process of some kind? Just being required to enter credit card details is helpful as the cards can be traced, and acts as a deterant of potential threats.

Most inexperience or less serious online daters will choose the free option, but if would rather reduce your odds of conmen or timewasters, a paid dating site might be better for you.

If you’ve always believed the best things in life are free, let me remind you that you get what you pay for.

Dating Desperation and Match Making

It’s amazing all the different ways people will try to find their “perfect match”. Recently, I read about DNA dating, which promised better sex, increased fertility and the greatest chance of a long-lasting relationship.

Sounds great doesn’t it? But let’s be realistic. As if you could expect to find such a perfect match this way. What about shared interests, personality, and so on. Fairly sure DNA can’t help you there.

There’s also mobile dating, where you carry on a conversation in 160 characters or less, but the conversations are 2 shrt 4 me lol. It uses GPS to notify you when a profile match is nearby. I thought this was a strange idea because it literally throws you into a date with someone you’ve barely had a chance to communicate with.

Then there is the whole dating by diet idea. While I can understand vegetarians or vegans preferring each others company, because kissing a non-vegetarian or vegan is probably like a smoker and non-smoker hooking up. This one might just make sense.

And let’s not forget the wide variety of niche sites to pop up. From ethnicity and religion to the eco concious and STD positive.

There has to be a better way to meet someone online…

True Love?

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, take this quizz to determine if your love is true. I think you fail if you start off with anything but answer a) in this first question…

1)  Your partner is returning after three days on a business trip and you:

 a) Can’t wait to see your significant other because you missed your quality time together.
 b) Wish your partner could stay away a few more days. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
 c) Plan to have friends in for dinner. It’s easier to get reacquainted with each other when others are around to help break the ice.
