The Ann Summers-style wannabe stripper look doesn’t hit the spot any more, if, indeed, it ever really did. So why are the stores still groaning with so many frilly, fancy sets? If women find them uncomfortable and annoying, and men see them as cheesy (and in some cases, intimidating), who is keeping these offending items on the shelves?

It’s time to strike a blow against saucy, seaside-postcard pants and bras as we reveal what men really like and what they think is, well, pants….

Gone are the times of manly men. Nowadays, we’re faced with a new breed that endures the plight of emasculation, and an inevitable fate that may lead to the metrosexual, or the bromance.

The metrosexual is best described as a dude which is very aware and concerned of his personal appearance and grooming. While this sounds fine, it is farther off the grid than you may anticipate. Besides a habitual wearing of cologne, the metrosexual might also partake in less masculine activities such as facials, manicures and pedicures.

A bromance is derived from the words bro, short for brother, and romance. The bromance involves a man crush, which isn’t a crush in its traditional sense, as it does not included sexual tendencies.  A man crush is more of a sense of admiration of another man for his skills and/or talents.

The typical bromance finds males bonding with one another simply because they would rather be together outside of the time spent at the latest female conquest. In other words, dudes prefer the company of other dudes when not challenged by getting into a hot girl’s pants.

While men around the world now embrace the idea of the bromanticism, there is still much to learn. And while it is rumored that the existence of manly men hasn’t died off completely, it’s similar to the case of Bigfoot which also lacks evidence.

I’ve dated online for a couple years now, and someone has to tell you guys. Read the following and adhere to it closely, otherwise you might as well move back in with mom and stock up on tv dinners.

Rule #1 – Do not, I repeat, do not put a photo of yourself that is 10 years old. The only thing worse than that would be putting a celebrity photo. If we met, it’s obviously not a current photo, and the lady of your dreams might just high tail it in the other direction. Be honest from the start.

Rule #2 – Do not send nude photos. Thanks, but no thanks. We’ll ask if we want them, but don’t hold your breath.

Rule #3 – Don’t lie about your income. It’s like us girls lying about our weight, and you can pretty much see the truth on a first meeting, which will probably be the last too.

Rule #4 – Sex. It’s not a given pending the amount of dates. So don’t expect it, or not expect it. It’s really how the relationship goes. (Sidebar – if you smell, it isn’t going to happen, but that’s just me)

There’s probably lots more, but I’ll save that for another time.

It goes without saying that some cocktails are just too fruity for real men. Although there isn’t a phallic option among beverages, here are a few to steer clear of…

• Tequila Sunrise – one look and you know its a girly drink
• Malibu & Diet – a favorite with the college ladies for low calories
• Fuzzy Navel – it even sounds girly!
• Lemon Drop – A favorite of Oprah – ’nuff said
• Amaretto Sour – a good rule of thumb; if it comes with a cherry, forget it
• Strawberry Margarita – you can’t be serious
• Wine Spritzer – are you chasing women?
• Appletini – Fabulous! NOT!
• Cosmopolitan – You’re going to have to man it up somehow

Note that any alcopop or cocktails that come with little umbrellas need a think too.
