Ever wonder just how accurate some of the matchmaking sites are? Is it a placebo effect or can the dating websites really align the stars for you?

Relationships are typically based on two things; compatibility and attraction, with most giving those two factors a different priority, but some might have other motives.

It sort of seems odd that answering about 100 questions can provide enough insight to suggest the right one, but I suppose its possible with the right questions, maybe?

When it comes to online dating, there’s no time like the present. Online dating memberships double in January according to the The Telegraph in London. This month is expected to be the best month ever as online dating becomes more accepted and effective at finding love.

The winter holiday season can be extremely lonely without a date or a loved one to share the season with. New Year’s Eve parties and Christmas gatherings abound, and driven partly by a look back on life at the end of a year, and also by the look forward through a bevy of New Year’s resolutions, singles lose their inhibitions and open up new accounts with the world’s hundreds of dating sites.

The young lady is an intern at BlackBook magazine. She’s from Melbourne, Australia but is currently living in Brooklyn.

“In our best interest, there will be no more updates to this website,” Moberg wrote.

BlackBook later ran with the buzz and and used their pool of attractive interns to offer another young woman as a prize in their ‘Win A Date With The Next BlackBook ‘Dream Girl’’ competition.” and offered Carly, a recently-single 22-year-old brunette. (fyi – contest is over.)

Here are two solid tips to increase your chances of finding a mate:

1) Update your profile everyday. Be active and improve it every way you can. If you keep at it, you will notice a big difference in the amount of messages you start receiving. This also keeps you at the top of the pile for search results because its “fresher”.

2) Watch the new listings everyday. This is important because if you are early enough to introduce yourself, and you do it with an interesting message and some class, you might get the opportunity to be one of the first guys she hears from, and not the 300th. Who’s going to get a reply?

Choosing the right username. This is probably the first meeting, and the name is important. For example, while names like “MovieGuy” or “Shopaholic79″ are acceptable, other names like “skullcrusher” or “teabagqueen” may need a rethink.

Providing detail is good. While you might not need your life story, info about you as a person can help, and what you are after.

Too much detail can be your enemy. Especially if you mention specific things that can identify you.
