Online Dating Adventures

Have you ever noticed when online dating how different people can be in person compared to your image of them from the messages you’ve exchanged?

It’s difficult to get a real sense of the actual person. You mostly get their version of them, sort of like a highlight reel.

And with people sometimes carefully crafting their response or reply, its not always easy to know what kind of personality they have, or what they’re really like.

First Date Mistakes

The first date can be tough. Both parties are still getting comfortable with each other and there’s an awkwardness in the air.

Besides the usual things you don’t want to do (like talking about yourself too much) there are 10 things to avoid in conversation to help your date go smoother.

1. “I’ve watched this movie with my ex.”

2. “My ex and I use to come here all of the time.”

3. On the phone (if you are a man): “I will be home by 10 mom”

4. “Can I have a doggy bag to take with me” (when you are in a restaurant)

5. “My dad/mom wants me to be home by nine.”

6. “Come and meet my parents.”

7. “I have never felt better since taking Prozac.”

8. “I have had 10 lovers; how many have you had?”

9. “I only split with my boyfriend/girlfriend last week.”

10. “Do you mind getting the bill? I am broke” (if you are a man).

Online Dating Matching and Science

dating-advice

Ever wonder just how accurate some of the matchmaking sites are? Is it a placebo effect or can the dating websites really align the stars for you?

Relationships are typically based on two things; compatibility and attraction, with most giving those two factors a different priority, but some might have other motives.

I’m not sure if answering a bunch of questions like this is going to help me find the one, although it probably helps know them a little better. But I’m stuck on the spirituality question.
The science behind online dating and matchmaking is an interesting subject. Is it a lot of hocus pocus or does it work? If it was as good as they say, wouldn’t even more people be paired up through those 29 dimensions?
One thing that’s very interesting about online dating is the average length of courtship before marriage is just 18.5 months compared to people that met offline, which have an average courtship before marriage of 42 months.

Virtual Dating

There’s a new dating site, but its not a dating site.

It’s actually a site which works with other dating sites, like Match, eHarmony, PlentyofFish, OKCupid, and others.

It’s called Weopia, at it provides virtual dating to let online daters get to know each other better. When we first read about it, we were blown away by the idea.

Weopia works like this; when you’ve met someone that interests you, you invite them on a virtual date. They say it allows you to get to know someone better, in less time, and those that use virtual dating are usually more happy with their new mate, and twice as likely to have a second date.

Sounds like a great way to find someone you might be compatible with.

Here’s a video showing what it’s like inside Weopia…
